It is home to the Anglia Two helicopter and critical care car to provide urgent out-of-hospital treatment and care to people in the west of the region and beyond. The Anglia Two aircraft (G-HEMC) currently flies between the hours of 07:00 and 19:00, with a critical care car providing 24/7 cover.
HRH Prince William (now the Prince of Wales) primarily flew out of EAAA’s Cambridge base as a pilot on Anglia Two from 2015 to 2017.
Due to the proximity to Newmarket and towns closer to the capital, the Anglia Two crew attend a higher number of traumatic and equestrian injuries.
The crew room contains all the office facilities for the on-duty crew. This is where you will find the red phone for incoming tasks, a screen showing a live digital weather map and office equipment.
EAAA is a 24/7 life-saving service, therefore it’s important to have appropriate crew welfare and facilities to support this. The rest facilities for the Anglia Two crew provide opportunities to sleep between shifts with crew bedrooms, or while on-shift at the Cambridge operating base in the relaxing lounge area. There is also a fully equipped crew kitchen.
A vital part of the Cambridge operating base is the Hangar. It accommodates one helicopter and provides protection for the aircraft against the elements and an area for essential on-site maintenance. The large frontage/door and hydraulic Heli-lift means the aircraft can be relocated to the helipad quickly and easily, ready for taskings.
Cambridge base has a car port for the Anglia Two critical care car. It has charging facilities for the car and the medical equipment contained within the vehicle.
Dedicated meeting and training areas for the crew. These rooms also provide private spaces for former patients and families when they attend a base visit to meet the crew who attended them, supported by EAAA’s Aftercare team. There is also a dedicated area for training.
