Dr James Senior Clinical Fellow

Dr James is part of the Anglia Two critical care team working out of EAAA’s Cambridge base. He is a Consultant Emergency Physician at the regional Major trauma centre at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge and an Honorary Consultant (R&D) with EAAA's academic department, RAID.

Dr James is also proud to be part of EAAA’s research, audit, innovation and development (RAID) group. This group, which is leading in research in air ambulance charities, monitors and continually improves the service EAAA provides, using the latest evidence behind cutting-edge out-of-hospital care to develop new treatments, equipment, and skills. It is part of the charity’s commitment to giving every patient the best possible chance of surviving and recovering from a life-threatening incident by advancing pre-hospital medicine through research, collaboration, and education. Dr James says, “At RAID we aim to be at forefront of research development and utilise the latest evidence behind cutting edge pre-hospital care, to innovate new treatments, equipment, and skills, and improve outcomes for our patients.”

James has an academic interest in the pre-hospital management of acute traumatic brain injury. Since being part of the team who develop the RAID group (formerly Anglia OHCA), he has authored several of EAAA’s research articles in scientific journals, presented at national and international conferences, and is a commissioned section editor for the Air Medical Journal. Currently, James is the Chief Investigator for the BRAIN-FIRST study at EAAA, exploring the feasibility of measuring prehospital brain biomarkers at the scene of an incident.

Outside of work, James likes to travel and spend time with his friends and family “and our ten-month-old German Shepherd (40kg!) puppy, Rex.”
