Dr James is also proud to be part of EAAA’s research, audit, innovation and development (RAID) group. This group, which is leading in research in air ambulance charities, monitors and continually improves the service EAAA provides, using the latest evidence behind cutting-edge out-of-hospital care to develop new treatments, equipment, and skills. It is part of the charity’s commitment to giving every patient the best possible chance of surviving and recovering from a life-threatening incident by advancing pre-hospital medicine through research, collaboration, and education. Dr James says, “At RAID we aim to be at forefront of research development and utilise the latest evidence behind cutting edge pre-hospital care, to innovate new treatments, equipment, and skills, and improve outcomes for our patients.”
James was part of the RAID team which was presented with an award for the Best Research Abstract at the 2023 European Emergency Medicine Congress (EuSEM), which was held in Barcelona. Attended by 3,000 Emergency Medicine specialists from across the globe, the team from the EAAA RAID group was selected to present their abstract focussed on the determinates of survival after an out-of-hospital cardiac arrest witnessed by a bystander. The study analysed data from the East of England to look at factors associated with successful resuscitation and identify patient groups most likely to benefit from interventions at scene.
Following James’ presentation, the RAID team EAAA will now produce an in-depth manuscript on the same study, which could potentially be included in the European Journal of Emergency Medicine in the future.
Outside of work, James likes to travel and spend time with his friends and family “and our ten-month-old German Shepherd (40kg!) puppy, Rex.”
