Dave says that he views being a HEMS Paramedic as the pinnacle of his career: “Working alongside our doctors and performing critical care interventions on seriously ill people has always been my career aspiration. I have previously worked for the ambulance service and saw first-hand the work of EAAA. From there on, it was something I wanted to do.”
Having applied for the highly competitive posts on several previous occasions, Dave’s son was born on the morning of Dave’s interview with EAAA!
“My interview was rearranged, and I was offered the role I’d wanted for several years (after having very little sleep the night before!), so I now say that my son is my lucky charm!” he says.
In addition to the medical side of EAAA, Dave also enjoys the aviation side and working alongside highly skilled pilots.
“We constantly strive for the best outcomes for our patients. A highlight of my role is when patients and their families visit us at base visits arranged by EAAA’s Aftercare team. It’s always lovely to see them and hear about their lives, families, progress and achievements since we attended them.”
Dave also enjoys getting involved to promote EAAA at awareness and fundraising events. “I really enjoy chatting to supporters because they make everything we do possible.”
Outside of EAAA, Dave also supports a local farm each summer to help with the harvest, and you may see him at Norwich City Football Club home matches when he works with the ambulance service.
