Carl is also an Advanced Clinical Practitioner for the East of England Ambulance, carrying out two shifts a week. On top of this, he is the Head of Clinical Development for Emergency and Critical Care for the College of Paramedics and has been an on-call firefighter for 27 years currently stationed at Swaffham. He also volunteers for Norfolk Accident Rescue Service (NARS) where he responds from home to support crews at the most serious incidents.
Carl has been a member of the College of Paramedics since its inception. He has worked for the East of England Ambulance Service since 2000 and, for the last 12 years, he has been a much-loved and respected Critical Care Paramedic with East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA).
An area of interest is resuscitation and Carl has a keen interest in end of life care, especially supporting the junior workforce in clinical decision making around cardiac arrest and those who have reached the end of their life.
Carl says: “At EAAA, there is variety and the ability to be able to work in a team where no two days are ever the same. A highlight for me is constantly learning new skills and being supported by the EAAA doctors and critical care paramedics to continually develop. Without the generosity of the public who support EAAA we would not be able to function; EAAA supporters are the true heroes.”
Carl was awarded the Medal of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) in the New Year’s Honours List 2024. He said at the time: ““It was a total surprise when I received a letter informing me of the award and I am humbled to be receiving this recognition.”
A fun fact about Carl is that he has never been to the cinema and rarely watches TV.
