How to perform Covid-19 safe CPR

You can help to save a life by doing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and if you’re not comfortable doing the rescue breaths, especially due to Covid-19, just focus on the chest compressions until help arrives. Always call 999 before starting CPR. Keep performing CPR until professional help arrives and takes over, or the person starts to show signs of regaining consciousness. If you become exhausted, take turns with other people nearby if you can.

Performing CPR is a vital step in the chain of survival and can ensure oxygen reaches the brain until a defibrillator arrives.

How to use an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

Using an AED when someone is in cardiac arrest can be key to strengthening the chain of survival. Being confident in using a defibrillator to restart someone’s heart is vital – for every minute that the patient is left without defibrillation, their chances of survival decrease by 10%.

AEDs are easy to access and use when someone is in cardiac arrest. Watch the video below to find out more:

Adult Choking

Choking is a common cause of respiratory obstruction. There are 2 parts to the choking algorithm; mild partial obstruction and the severe full obstruction.
