The intensive six-day PHEM course, which takes place each August and February, introduces a new intake of doctors and paramedics to the charity, the region, the clinical kit and equipment, clinical systems and practice through theory and simulations. They will also be introduced to local networks, which include trauma, cardiac, paediatric and burns networks.
Each day of theory, discussion and simulation has a different theme, which includes:
The final day includes major incident training and assessment.
One of the days starts and ends later so simulations can be completed during the hours of darkness.
While the PHEM course is primarily aimed at clinicians who are joining EAAA, commercial spaces may be available if the course is not full.
Clinicians new to EAAA are also required to complete Crew Resource Management training with Babcock, our aviation partner, which covers aircraft safety as an essential part of their induction training.
