Tracey wanted to volunteer for EAAA in memory of a dear family friend who was attended by the Anglia One (Norwich crew). She has now donated her time to the charity for over two years, supporting various events, as well as helping people to learn the skills to help save a life.
“I am a Community CPR Trainer, and I help at events and bucket collections. I love talking to the public and educating them on everything EAAA,” Tracey explains. “Glynis and I have done lots and lots of events together. We met over two years ago when we were selling raffle tickets for a charity event for EAAA. We just clicked.”
Glynis has been a volunteer with EAAA for eight years following a move to the region. Having previous volunteered for charity elsewhere, she knew she would miss it and kept her eye out for local opportunities. “I think I read an article in Lift Off magazine about volunteering for East Anglian Air Ambulance. The rest is history, as they say!” Glynis says.
Glynis has embraced her time with EAAA and has helped with all kinds of events and activities.
“I enjoy doing it as it gets me out and I meet some lovely people,” she says. “Tracey and I have worked together at various events including bucket collections, event marshalling, and running a stall. We get on well together and agree on what needs doing. We seem to always have lots to chat about – very often not about EAAA!”
Tracey adds, “I usually text Glynis to tell her events that I’m doing so we can be together.”
I've made a friend for life in Glynis. She means the world to me. We care a lot about each other and East Anglian Air Ambulance.
— Tracey, EAAA Volunteer
When Tracey was presented with a volunteering award at EAAA’s Trek 24 in 2023, her friend was applauding her as she stepped up to receive her framed certificate. “I looked over at Glynis and she was smiling and clapping. I had tears in my eyes,” Tracey explains.
Tracey and Glynis also keep in touch between events and check-in on each other regularly. “Glynis was ill last year, and I was past myself with worry. I phoned every other day to make sure she was ok. We have the same good values and are both passionate about EAAA.”
This incredible support from people in the community who continue to go above and beyond to volunteer their time and be an ambassador for EAAA really does make a life-saving difference to the charity. Glynis and Tracey’s friendship is a shining example of the very special bonds that can be made in the process.
“Making friends is a bonus from volunteering.” Glynis says.
Tracey concludes, “I’ve made a friend for life in Glynis. She means the world to me. We care a lot about each other and East Anglian Air Ambulance.”
